I Quit my Job

Knave of Pentacles + 7 of Pentacles

For the next few months, I will choose a card from the African American Tarot deck as a prompt for my blog posts. Let’s see what spiritual insight I come up with!

Have you ever had an experience that sets off a chain of events that you never saw coming? This experience can come as a spark of inspiration, an opportunity or even a piece of advice. New information and feelings come flooding in. You begin to plan your next steps not knowing where you will end up. You just follow that idea, that thought, that inspiration. Stepping out on faith, you see where it takes you.

This happened to me in 2010. I was so over going to a job I didn’t like. My spirit said no and I followed its lead. I quit. I walked away from the “security” of my city job and followed my heart. The time that followed was no cake walk. I struggled, worked odd jobs, and moved from place to place. But what came out of this spark of inspiration was my writing career. I began blogging and eventually turned that blog into a book. I then went on to write and publish another book.

You never know what will grow from the seeds planted by those moments of inspiration. I certainly didn’t expect to become a writer. And yet here I am. I had an idea. I followed through on that idea. I put in the work. My books are the fruits of my labor. To learn more about my books please visit
